Honda CRF250 Rally at Ben Lora —

Must be at least four years – maybe five since I took this shot – she is still wearing her original exhaust —

Memory isn’t what it was and I even had to google Ben Lpra Cafe to see where I had been riding that day. Turns out I was passing through Benderloch just north of Connel Bridge – a few miles up the coast from Oban —

At least it was cleaner underfoot than here on the Isle of Luing – I do miss that wee bike —

No worries – my X-ADV 750 is back in the shed after a six week holiday. She is sitting there fully serviced and wearing a brand new set of Michelin Pilot Roads 4 – will be interesting to see how she goes on them —

Three Wheels on my Wagon —

Spotted this setup on a visit to Daytona Beach in the early nineties —

I’m pretty sure our Loki would love it —

X-ADV 750 Love Affair —

It was love at first sight when I saw the grey 2021 model Honda X-ADV750 I had on order last year —

I somehow averaged 1000 miles per month in the first six months of riding her and apart from a minor problem with the plastics she has been spot on —

Rannoch falls is just one of the picturesque places she has taken me to – hard to believe I rode my Honda trials bikes up that waterfall in days gone by —

There’s not a lot of changes between my previous black n white 2019 X-ADV and the latest model but enough to make a difference. The new seat is easier to live with and the upgrade to gear ratios are of benefit too —

The claimed 3kgs weight loss over the lardy earlier X-ADV is barely noticeable and the slimmer front end on the latest model with the plastics wrapped tighter around the frame and rad could probably explain why the bodywork doesn’t fit as well as it should – pity I can’t convince the powers at be at Honda they have a problem —

No Worries – all being well we will be back on the road soon and wracking up a few more miles —

Heading for Zadar —

Parked by a little cafe in the hills between the hinterland and the coast – the wall behind the XJR 1300 is pockmarked with bullet holes —

Beinn Dorain —

Towers above the farm of Auch where my late brother John was the shepherd back in the eighties —

I still remember stalking with him to cull a lame deer on that brute of a mountain. He was as fit as a flea then and I was the one who struggled to keep up —

South Shore of Loch Earn —

There was a time when the south bank of Loch Earn was my favourite —

with countless waterfalls tumbling down the hillsides —

Clean shingle and spots to let Loki explore without worrying about what crap he will pick up —

but last summer was the worst ever for dirt and debris as every passing place was filled with parked vehicles – any accessible waterside spot was filled by happy campers and any wooded area became an alfresco toilet.

Wouldn’t be quite so bad if they would take their rubbish home with them but invariably they don’t. I’ve seen large televisions – fridges – you name it – it will be there —

At least it isn’t quite so bad in winter but I did spot a kitchen cabinet in the ditch up Glen Ogle the other day — is it me that’s out of step? 🙃

Glen Isla on the X-ADV 750 —

With rain battering down outside and the three rivers which meet within 250 metres of our home on the verge of flooding – there isn’t a better time to cast the mind back to better days —

This time on the Cateran Trail – a sixty mile mixture of tracks and old drove roads in north-west Angus —

I came upon this beautiful area by chance last year and hopefully it won’t be long before I’m back there exploring again —

Magic!
