Triumph Tina at Faslane —

My visit to Faslane yesterday brought back memories from sixty years ago.

I was down there with my mobile crane lifting in concrete flooring beams – normally they would have used a Glasgow crane hire company but it was during Glasgow Fair when the whole west coast went to Blackpool.

Roads in that area were minimal back then and digs non-existant. I managed to find a room.in a hotel down towards Rhu – out of my league price wise but hey-ho.

I got talking to a guy in the bar after work finished for the day – as you do. A big dark handsome guy built like a brick shithouse – turns out he skippered sailing yachts for a living – delivering them around the world.

Anyway – it was decided he would come for me after dinner and take me out somewhere. After dinner arrived and so did my new friend – not in a Triumph sports car as I had expected – but on a Triumph Tina scooter!

Now he was a big fit guy and I’m a tall open-side wingforward rugby player – somehow we both fitted on that wee thing as only close friends could do.

It’s midnight – we are all alone on a sandy beach where Glesca folk come to search for clappie do’s – razor clams for the uninitiated. My Tina rider wanted a wrestle. Well I had been in the boyscouts too and I know how things work – so to quote Billy Connolly – I said ‘fuck that’ and without more ado he dropped me back to my hotel.

Next morning at breakfast there was a package wrapped in wet newspaper delivered to my table. It fell apart and to my surprise there was the biggest live lobster I had ever seen scrabbling around.

It was a present from my yacht skipper friend for my Stag Party – to be held in the Station Hotel in Alloa that night. The lobster in a bucket of sea water was guest of honour and I finished up at the end of it all – naked in the street having been debagged by my fellow rugby players.

Hopefully no pics exist of that little escapade 🥺
