Building Bridges —

24 Mar

After a wonderful 80th birthday lunch between the bridges courtesy of my lovely daughter —

It was time to head for home —

I very much doubt if I’ve ever spent best part of three hours over a lunch before —

But with pleasant company and views like this I could get accustomed to it —

I remember when there was only the far-a-way rail bridge over the Forth and I would travel over by ferry —

I was working as a steel erector when the original road bridge on the right was being built and I was offered a job there. The day I went down to start work the site was closed with everyone on strike. As the sole earner with a baby daughter to support I couldn’t afford strikes and eventually moved to England for a management position —

So my daughter is the same age as the bridge and wearing well if I may say so —

I even had difficulty negotiating the steps in the forefront from the restaurant to ground level for the drive home over the new bridge as my knees don’t take kindly to that sort thing these days —

All these stays look like overkill to me —

but better safe than sorry —

Thanks to Helen and Rainnie for a wonderful day out and even the weather played it’s part 😎
